The United States naval base at Pearl Harbor was the site of a surprise attack by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. The attack left 2,402 Americans dead and lead to the United States joining World War II.

One of the ships lost during the attack, the USS Arizona, has become symbolic of the event. The ship was bombed and sunk during the attack. As a result 1,177 sailors lost their lives, roughly half of all the victims in the entire attack. The wreckage remains at the bottom of the harbor to this day. As a result, the USS Arizona memorial was established to pay tribute to all of the victims of the attack. USS Arizona tours are available for interested parties.

The USS Missouri is another tourist site in Pearl Harbor. The ship is famous for never having suffered a combat death aboard her decks. The ship was the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan which ended World War II. As with the USS Arizona, you can take a USS Missouri tour.
