We all want to live healthy, active lives. However, chances are that most of us will develop back pain at some point in our lives. Recent studies show that as many as 80% of Americans will suffer from back pain at some point.
One of the most common types of back pain is called sciatica. It is estimated that as many as 43% of people will develop sciatica over the course of their lives. Sciatica is characterized by pain which radiates from the lower back, down through the hips and buttocks, and all the way to the lower leg. This condition typically only affects one side of a person’s body. It is commonly caused by a herniated disk or a bone spur on the spine compressing part of the nerve.
